Expertise Centre Dementia & Technology
The Expertise Centre Dementia & Technology (ECDT) is an initiative of TU/e and Alzheimer Nederland aimed at improving the lives of people with dementia through the use of so-called ‘warm technology’.
Together with the people it concerns
When developing and implementing technology, it is also important to take into account factors relating to well-being: dignity, the freedom to make one’s own choices, and feeling comfortable and safe. The ECDT achieves this by prioritising the wishes and input of people with dementia (and their loved ones) when developing technology and services (‘warm technology’). In this way, the ECDT creates user-friendly and non-stigmatising technology. One example is the Welthuiskompas: an easy-to-use navigation system with a single, simple function – it always points the way home.
Expertise in interdisciplinary collaboration
The ECDT’s work involves designers, academics, entrepreneurs, informal carers, nurses and healthcare administrators. The ECDT is keen to share its knowledge and experience of how to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
