Lunch & Learn – The role of epigenetics in dementia

Lunch & Learn
The role of epigenetics in dementia
19 november 2026 | 12:00 – 13:00 uur | het Colloquium | De Boelelaan 1118 Amsterdam
In this edition of the Amsterdam Alzheimer’s Centre’s ‘Lunch & Learn’, Lianne Reus presents ‘The switching on and off of genes: the role of epigenetics in dementia’. This lecture is in Dutch.
Epigenetics investigates how genes can be switched on or off without the DNA sequence itself changing. It involves small chemical modifications on or around the genetic material, which determine how active certain genes are. These changes are linked to age (the most significant risk factor for dementia), the environment, lifestyle and disease. As a key link between genes and the environment, epigenetics is therefore particularly relevant to understanding complex brain diseases such as dementia.
The ‘Lunch & Learn’ lecture series is open to anyone who wishes to keep up to date with developments in the field of dementia, including researchers, professionals, people with dementia and their carers, and anyone else with an interest in the subject.
