World Alzheimer’s Day 2026

21 September is World Alzheimer’s Day. This day, extra attention is drawn worldwide to Alzheimer’s disease and other conditions that cause dementia. Dutch organisations, care centres and local networks will also be organising events, fairs and gatherings around this date.
The national theme is ‘Ik blijf meedoen’ (“I’ll keep participating”).
Alzheimer Nederland
This organisation is launching an appeal for the day: do you have dementia and are you still active? Tell us what you do and/or who helps you with it. Share your story on social media using: #ikblijfmeedoen #wereldalzheimerdag. Alzheimer Nederland is also organising the ‘HerinneringenLoop’ (Memories Walk).
And local branches are organising an extensive programme of activities, including creative workshops and walks.

Movisie
This knowledge institute for social issues focuses on professionals who help ensure that people with dementia can continue to participate in society for longer. Around 21 September, Movisie will be focusing entirely on the implementation of the updated Dementia Care Standard.
Alzheimer Center Limburg
This year, Alzheimer Center Limburg celebrates its 25th anniversary. Just before World Alzheimer’s Day, on September 17, the center will conclude its anniversary year with a symposium at Vaeshartelt in Maastricht. Young scientists will discuss their research, and the future of dementia care and research will be addressed.
Radboudumc Alzheimer Center
Lectures, musical performances, and creative workshops are on the agenda at St. Stevenskerk in Nijmegen on September 19. The Radboudumc Alzheimer Center is one of the co-organizers and will also give a lecture on living with dementia.
ErasmusMC Alzheimer Center
On September 22, something special will appear in the Passage of ErasmusMC: a giant cube. Step inside and immerse yourself in the world of the brain and dementia. Discover more about brain health and share your thoughts on how people with dementia can remain active participants in society. In the Passage, you can also ask questions to researchers from the Alzheimer Center.
Amsterdam Alzheimer Center
On September 24, the Amsterdam Alzheimer Center is organizing “Alzheimer Actueel” (Alzheimer’s Today). During this event, the center will highlight care for people with dementia and the associated research.
