Workshop – Masterclass Interview Techniques

Workshop – Masterclass Interview Techniques
January 20, 2027 | 10:00 – 13:00 | Churchilllaan 11, Utrecht
Do you conduct qualitative research with healthcare professionals or people with dementia (and their carers), and do interviews sometimes not go as you’d hoped? You’re not alone. That’s why DEMPACT is organising the ‘Masterclass in Interview Techniques’ workshop, led by seasoned researcher Dr Gili Yaron (Research Group on Living Well with Dementia, Windesheim).
Common issues:
- You’re halfway through your list of topics but time is almost up, because your participant is talking at great length and often strays off-topic.
- You want to explore the perspective of a person with dementia, but a family member or care provider present invariably fills in the answers.
- You’re leading a focus group with care providers, but the atmosphere becomes strained because two participants get bogged down in a substantive discussion.
The result: your data collection grinds to a halt and you lose motivation for your research. Many researchers in the field of dementia encounter such pitfalls. During the Masterclass in Conversation Techniques, you will learn:
- why interviews don’t go as you’d like them to;
- how to maintain control respectfully and effectively;
- what you can do to create a safe and supportive environment for participants.

The workshop will be conducted in Dutch. DEMPACT is offering the workshop free of charge, including lunch afterwards. Participation is in-person only.
You can register until 12 January 2027. Please email Karin Postelmans, DEMPACT’s communications advisor, stating your name, the organisation where you are conducting your research, and the subject line ‘Masterclass in Conversation Techniques’.
